An outstanding pianist and composer, living legend of jazz, the most outstanding jazz pianist of our time (alongside Keith Jarrett and Herbie Hancock). He was one of the leaders of the fusion revolution, which directed jazz towards modernity and opened it to electric sounds. The American magazine Downbeat called Corea "the most diverse and unpredictable figure in jazz." The artist took part in recording breakthroughs for fusion albums by Miles Davis ("In a Silent Way", "Bitches Brew", "Live-Evil" and "On The Corner"), then he was the founder and pillar of Return to Forever - one of the most important fusion groups in history.
Chick Corea was born in 1941 in the suburbs of Boston. His father playing trumpet since childhood has instilled in him a love for jazz. As a 5-year-old, he began to take piano lessons, and three years later also on drums. Such a musical education influenced his later, unique style of play, in which the piano was treated as a percussion instrument. He made his debut in 1968 with the album "Tones For Joan's Bones" and in the same year replaced Herbie Hancock in the band Miles Davis. The next two years forever changed the face of jazz music, and Corea was one of the brightest figures in Davis' electric experiment. After parting with Miles Davis, the artist continued his musical explorations, playing, among others, with free jazz giant Anthony Braxton. In 1972, he founded the Return To Forever band, which eventually blurred the boundaries between jazz and other musical genres. The jazz-rock played by Corea fundamentally influenced progressive rock and demolished the wall between jazz and hit lists, thanks to which elitist music so far began to reach millions of new listeners.
Jazz standards such as "Spain", "La Fiesta", "Now He Sings, Now He Sobs", "Armando's Rhumba" and "Matrix" are just some of the many that he wrote and composed.
The artist's discography includes over 70 albums recorded solo and with masters such as Bobby McFerrin, Pat Metheny, Dave Holland and Herbie Hancock, among many others. During four decades of his career, the artist received the prestigious Grammy Award as many as 22 times !!!
In Szczecin, the artist will perform for the second time, the first time he played a solo project in our city in 2009. This time the artist will be accompanied by outstanding instrumentalists, his permanent partners: double bassist John Patitucci and drummer Dave Weckl.
